Hello from the Mental Health Commissioner

4 Jul 2017

It is with great humility and commitment that I have accepted the Queensland Mental Health Commissioner position and I am fully aware that the ongoing reform of mental health and drug and alcohol services in Queensland can only be achieved if we collectively work together to build on the successes achieved to date.

The role provides me with a unique opportunity to work with you all to improve the overall wellbeing of our Queensland community and to improve the lives of people living with mental illness, and the lives of their family members and carers.

I strongly believe that it is an opportune time for the Commission to work with all key stakeholders to lead and shape the next phase of reform and improvement in Queensland.

Collectively we have a unique opportunity to envision a future we want for all Queenslanders and work together on a blueprint that will get us there.

I am confident that there are many professional, dedicated and forward-thinking people in the public, private and non-government sectors who share this goal, and who give their finest every day to make a positive difference in people’s lives.

My focus in the coming weeks is to fully understand the current work of the Commission, lead the development of a reinvigorated Queensland Mental Health, Alcohol and other Drugs Strategic Plan 2017-2022, and to connect and reconnect with the many people who are the backbone of the mental health, alcohol and other drugs and suicide prevention sectors in Queensland.

I am looking forward to hearing from you all, and listening to your aspirations and priorities for the future.

Finally, I would like to offer my sincere thanks to Dr Lesley van Schoubroeck for her leadership and contribution as the foundation Queensland Mental Health Commissioner. We wish her well in her future endeavours.

Regards,

Ivan Frkovic
