Host a World Suicide Prevention Day event

25 May 2016

Every year World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) takes place on 10 September.

Why host a WSPD event?

The impacts of suicide are immediate, far-reaching and long-lasting. They are felt by families, friends, work colleagues and the broader community.

In 2014 an estimated 648 Queenslanders took their own lives. The suicide rate in Queensland continues to be higher than the national rate and higher than in most other states and territories.

Holding a WSPD event can help prevent suicide and reduce these numbers. How? By changing the conversation to focus on hope and optimism, by speaking openly and safely about suicide and combatting the stigma that often prevents people from seeking help, and by linking people with local support services and sources of help.
