$300,000 to build mentally healthy communities across Queensland

26 Jun 2026

From classrooms to clubhouses, workplaces to community halls, the Queensland Government is investing $300,000 in Queensland communities through the Queensland Mental Health Week 2026 Grants Program.

The funding, delivered through the Queensland Mental Health Commission and administered by the Queensland Alliance for Mental Health, supports two grant programs that will help Queenslanders build stronger connections, improve wellbeing and create mentally healthier communities across the state.

The Community Events Grants Program ($150,000) will help schools, workplaces, sporting clubs and community groups host local events during Queensland Mental Health Week to encourage connection, reduce stigma and remind community that mental health belongs to all of us.

For the first time, an additional $150,000 is also available through a new Mental Health First Aid Training Grants Program to enable individuals and organisations access accredited Mental Health First Aid training.

This training will help everyday Queenslanders including teachers, coaches, colleagues and neighbours to access training that builds confidence and skills to talk about mental health and support people who might be struggling.

Queensland Mental Health Commissioner, Ivan Frkovic said Queensland Mental Health Week provides an important opportunity for people to connect and support one another.

“Good mental health and wellbeing are the foundation for healthy individuals, families and communities, but they are not automatic states, they are something we all need to work at and maintain.”

“It's fantastic to see the launch of both the 2026 Queensland Mental Health Week Community Events Grant Program and the new Mental Health First Aid Training Grants Program.”

“I look forward to seeing what activities and events our Queensland communities come up with to build resilience at the local level, boost wellbeing and help people to feel connected.”

“The introduction of the Mental Health First Aid Training Grants will also enable more Queenslanders to access training that equips them with the knowledge and confidence to recognise the signs of mental health challenges, provide initial support, and connect others with appropriate professional help.”

Queensland Alliance for Mental Health Board Chair, Tanya O’Shea said she hopes to see applications from every corner of the state.

“We encourage community groups, businesses, schools, sporting organisations and local councils, particularly in regional, rural and remote Queensland, to apply,” Tanya said.

“It is also important that we embrace diversity by valuing and supporting people from different backgrounds, cultures and lived experiences. The grants program recognises the needs of communities that may face a greater risk of mental health challenges.

“This year’s theme, Build Community, Build Wellbeing, reflects the important role that everyday community connections play in supporting mental health.

“Mental wellbeing is not only shaped in clinics or counselling rooms. It is built through everyday interactions in schools, workplaces, sporting clubs, neighbourhoods and community groups.

“The theme is an invitation for all Queenslanders to play an active role in creating mentally healthier communities. Whether you’re organising a community event, hosting a morning tea or simply checking in on a neighbour, every action counts.”
