GPs in schools

28 Oct 2021

Fifty state secondary schools across Queensland are set to have a GP based at the school from early next year.

The State Government is expanding its GPs in schools pilot program from the originally announced 20 schools to 50 schools across the state.

The program is part of the Government’s $100 million student wellbeing program and the plan is for the school GP clinics to be running in the first half of 2022.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said when schools were originally asked to register interest for the pilot program, the Government had been inundated with requests, hence the expansion from 20 to 50 schools.

Education Minister Grace Grace said that providing students with access to timely healthcare, at no cost to them or their families, would have a positive impact on students’ health, mental health and their readiness and ability to engage at school.

The GPs will operate one day a week at the schools.
