Queensland Mental Health Week 2026 update

3 Feb 2026

The Commission is pleased to announce that coordination of Queensland Mental Health Week (QMHW) will transition to the Queensland Alliance for Mental Health (QAMH) from 2026, following collaborative planning with current coordinator CheckUP.

The transition marks an important milestone for QMHW, one of the state’s most recognised and valued mental health awareness initiatives.

Queensland Mental Health Commissioner Ivan Frkovic acknowledged CheckUP’s leadership and contribution to the success of QMHW.

“I would like to extend my sincere thanks to CheckUP for their dedication and leadership in growing QMHW since 2018. Their work has been instrumental in strengthening community connection, participation and mental health awareness across Queensland. I am excited about the next chapter of QMHW as it continues to evolve.”

Since taking on the coordination role, CheckUP has played a central role in expanding QMHW, strengthening partnerships and supporting communities across the state to host events and conversations that reduce stigma and promote mental wellbeing.

CheckUP Chief Executive Officer Ann Maree Liddy reflected on the organisation’s eight-year involvement in the initiative.

“It has been a privilege to support and coordinate QMHW. We’ve seen the week grow into a truly statewide, community-driven initiative that brings people together and encourages open conversations about mental health and wellbeing.”

The transition to QAMH has been carefully planned in partnership with The Commission and CheckUP to ensure continuity, stability, and a smooth handover. The organisations are working closely to preserve the strengths of QMHW while supporting its continued evolution.

QAMH brings extensive experience in mental health advocacy, community engagement, and sector leadership, positioning the organisation well to guide the next chapter of QMHW.

QAMH Chief Executive Officer Emily Wolter said the organisation looks forward to supporting the initiative into the future.

“QAMH would like to sincerely thank CheckUP for not only delivering Queensland Mental Health Week above and beyond over the past eight years, but also for their generous support and collegiate approach as we transition the week to QAMH. That goodwill sets a strong foundation for what’s to come under QAMH’s leadership.

We’re proud of what Queensland Mental Health Week has meant to communities across the state and remain positive about the role it will continue to play as we focus on community-led wellbeing initiatives. Thank you, of course, to the Commission for your support and enthusiasm around the impact QMHW drives and QAMH's role in seeing that through.”

The Commission also extends its thanks to the many individuals and organisations who have contributed to QMHW’s success, including members of the QMHW Working Group and Reference Group.

QAMH will contact stakeholders and community partners in the coming months to confirm details for Queensland Mental Health Week 2026, including dates and the annual theme. Sign up to the QMHW newsletter to keep up to date.

About Queensland Mental Health Week

Queensland Mental Health Week (QMHW) is an annual statewide awareness week held during October that aims to raise awareness of mental health and wellbeing, increase understanding of mental health challenges, and reduce stigma around mental health.

QMHW is a major whole-of-community promotion and prevention mental wellbeing initiative, helping to increase awareness, knowledge and individual literacy amongst Queenslanders about the importance of taking steps to promote positive mental health every day, and supporting people to proactively consider their wellbeing before they are unwell.

QMHW is brought to life through hundreds of events and activities in local communities across Queensland, including several flagship major annual events.

QMHW is funded by the Queensland Mental Health Commission, on behalf of the Queensland Government, and in 2026 will be delivered by QAMH through strong cross-sector collaboration.
