We lead cross-government coordination of suicide prevention in Queensland through activities including:

Strategy and implementation

  • Developing and facilitating implementation of the Queensland Suicide Prevention Action Plan 2015-17
  • Supporting the Queensland Suicide Prevention Reference Group and the Queensland Advisory Group on Suicide Data and Information

Better data

  • funding the Australian Institute for Suicide Research and Prevention to maintain and report on the Queensland Suicide Register and undertake research into the risk factors and predictors of farmer suicide in Queensland and New South Wales
  • developing a Suicide Data and Information Network

Improved system responses

  • developing and trialling a place-based suicide prevention initiative that builds on community strengths
  • reviewing suicide prevention training and resources to support culturally and linguistically diverse communities
  • reviewing the accessibility of resources to support people bereaved by suicide
  • funding the development of a suicide prevention App for young people
  • supporting the participation of people with a lived experience to attend the National Suicide Prevention Conference

Stronger community awareness

  • funding beyondblue to support a range of community awareness, education and stigma reduction activities
  • increase community awareness of suicide prevention though coordination and promotion of community events for World Suicide Prevention Day.
